Damn Abbey - When we worked to put Abbey Road in the ring we had several things to contend with. First, Abbey Road is likely the greatest rock album of all-time. Second, the structure of the album is such that it doesn't line up like more traditionally tracked albums. 3. We wanted to find a great foe, but be fair to both combatants as they entered the ring.
Last week's episode saw Kendrick Lamar's Damn take on Beck's Morning Phase. Each is an award-winning album from the 2010's. Beck won 3 GRAMMYs including Album of the Year. Damn won the first non-jazz Pulitzer Prize. That is the caliber of albums that were going to fight for the right to take on the Beatles. Our judges this week are Mike Lipari (life-long friend of Pete), DJ Severe the DJ of the Los Angeles Dodgers (his BIDS ep is 63). As always Richard Lackie provides his ever improving, and always, excellent analysis of the fight. Double duty Phil Green does the corner call and the album art this week. Get ready...this one is closer than you think...and everyone involved learned something about both albums. |
